Just a Thought

To Kneel or not to Kneel...

Posted on 9/25/2017 by Admin

To kneel or not to kneel, that seems to be the question of the day This really shouldn’t even be a question (but not for the reasons you might think)

Romans 14:1

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions

To kneel or not to kneel, that seems to be the question of the day

This really shouldn’t even be a question (but not for the reasons you might think)

Whether you’re black or white, male or female, democrat or republican, you (more than likely) have an opinion about the topic of the day … professional athletes (not just football players) taking a knee during the national anthem.

The first question you should ask yourself is, what does God think about the matter?

Romans 14:10-13

Why do you pass judgement on your brother?  Or you, why do you despise your brother?  For we will all stand before the judgement seat of God; for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”  So, then each of us will give an account of himself to God.  Therefore, let us not pass judgement on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hinderance in the way of a brother.

Just like back in the day when you got into a fight or an argument with one of your siblings, your parents never cared who started it or who was right or wrong … the Lord, our Father, does not care what your opinion is on this, or any other subject.  And (again) like your parents just wanted you to get along with your brother/sister, our Father just wants us all to get along as well.  We are all His children.

Philippians 4:6

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication and thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God

I’ve shared this with several friends and family members …

I often look up when I’m stressed or worried about something.  The vision I have in my mind is our Father, looking down on me and shaking His head.  I can almost hear Him saying, “I’ve had you before and I’ve got you this time too.”

Well, the question of whether to kneel or not to kneel also provides an image for us of our Father, looking down upon us and just shaking His head.  You see, He doesn’t care about who’s right and who’s wrong.  This is so trivial to Him.

Romans 12:1-2

I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercy of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect

In this day and age of well over 1,000 TV channels and social media on your cell phone 24-7, I categorize our current lives as a People magazine world.  It’s hard these days to have an original thought … everything seems to be molded by what we read, see and hear.

I remember when I was in college (way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I had an advertising class and the professor said, “we are inundated with well over 3,000 messages a day.”  I recently asked a social media “expert” how many messages he felt we were faced with daily today?  His response, “Add a few zero’s.”  Think about that … 300,000 times a day, someone (or something) is trying to influence your thought.

No wonder we have lost the ability of original thought.

Matthew 5:9

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God

I always want to put God’s views ahead of my own for His views are all that really matter.

That said, have you ever really listened to the lyrics of the national anthem?

Furthermore, do you understand how the national anthem was derived?

Francis Scott Key wrote a poem, Defense of Fort McHenry.  His poem was later turned into a song, The Anacreontic Song, which was altered and later become our anthem.

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming

Gave proof thru the night that our flag was still there

For the land of the free and the home of the brave

To kneel or not to kneel

Whether you believe they should or should not … this land, America, was built on the principle of freedom.  Therefore, never forget the millions of men and women who have fought for your right to have your said own opinion.

Isaiah 43:15

I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King

I often wonder how many people would feel about America’s perceived problems if they were forced to live in a third world country for a year, a month, even a week!

I imagine most would come running back to America’s doorstep begging to be let back in.

And the principals of our founding fathers would welcome him/her with open arms because that is what this country was founded on … the belief that ALL men are created equal.

And where did this belief derive from … the holy bible.  God’s word.

Imagine if you fought and cheered for the Lord the same way you do for your team on Sunday.  Can you see yourself wearing your favorite team’s jersey with the #1 on the back, and above that #1 was the name Jesus Christ?  Why aren’t any of us as passionate about proudly sharing our opinions on the Lord?

And what about the majority of people who are up in arms over the patriotic aspect of the flag?  You can’t “force” patriotism.  The last country I can remember that tried to force patriotism was Germany and I think we can all agree that NO ONE wants nor believes in that lunatic’s belief system.

All our lives are about choices, and none of us are perfect.  There was only one man that ever walked this earth that was perfect, Jesus Christ.  We all make mistakes on a daily basis.

A choice that we all need to make is the cognitive choice to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  This will be the best decision of your life, which will lead to an eternal life.

So, in closing, the decision to kneel or not, as I mentioned in the beginning, is a very simple decision … Make the choice to kneel to the cross.  Our Father is who you should kneel to every day.
